KEYNOTE: ‘Work the Room like a Pro’ Part 1 for ‘Build Your Network’ Event @ Nottingham Business School
November 2022
It was a privilege to once again be involved in the ‘Build Your Network’ event at Nottingham Business School, Nottingham Trent University as I was asked to deliver my keynote titled ‘Work the room like a pro’ to around sixty students…
I worked together with the business school during lockdown to design this hybrid practical networking skills training event, which was initially delivered online through a series of virtual events, eventually moving back in the room for the first time last year & has continued to go from strength to strength, giving students the opportunity to learn & practise new communication techniques with real business folk in the form of the alumni fellow volunteers.
NTU’s Very First Student Networking Event
SEPTEMBER 2018
I was delighted to be asked to support the academics on Nottingham Trent University Business School’s very first networking event, held at the St Mary’s Church in Nottingham’s Lace Market.
My role included an initial event consultation with the academics involved, followed through with support on the day to provide a speech to 250+ students on stage, offering support and motivation.
In December 2021, I was asked to get involved in the very first ‘in-person’ #NBSConnect event at @nbs_ntu which was hosted specifically for end of year business students to practise their networking skills in a real life setting…
Students were given half an hour to mingle with the invited ‘Alumni Fellows’ without any preparation, which there followed a 45 minute keynote delivered by myself in the lecture theatre, where I talked them through tangible tools & techniques to encourage them to ‘work the room like a pro’.
They then went out into the event for a second time armed with the skill set & increased confidence to improve upon their experience & the results & feedback since has been nothing short of positive & inspiring & I’m delighted to have had the opportunity to be involved!
